SUPPLEMENTAL RECRUITMENT ACTIVITIES
October 1, 2004-September 30, 2005

For Stations:  KWIX-AM and KRES-FM, Moberly, MO

Specify First Initiative:  Participation in a Scholarship Program to assist students interested in a career in broadcasting.

Describe activities undertaken to fulfill that initiative: KWIX and KRES Radio participated in the Missouri Broadcasters Association Foundation Scholarship Program for high school graduates or college attendees interested in a broadcasting career.  Ads were run on the stations in late January and February to inform interested students of the scholarship program, inviting them to pick up applications and information at the stations.  Both KWIX and KRES Websites contained information about the MBA Scholarships.  10 students from Centralia, Brunswick, Columbia, Shelbina, Macon, and Salisbury responded and received applications and other information.

Specify Second Initiative: Participation in a Scholarship Program to assist students interested in a career in broadcasting.

Describe activities undertaken to fulfill that initiative: KWIX and KRES Asst. Program Director Stephanie Ross and On Air Programmer Kristie Douglas participated in the University of Missouri Journalism School’s AHANA Workshop. AHANA (African, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American) high school students were sponsored from July 9-16, 2005 and were given experience in reporting, writing, and editing news stories.  KWIX and KRES donated $1600 to the workshop, and broadcast ads inviting minority students to apply for a scholarship to the AHANA Workshop.  Stephanie and Kristie participated in the AHANA Workshop on July 14th, 15th, and 16th by helping the students with writing and editing news copy suitable for broadcast.  Stephanie and Kristee also helped the Journalism School with the selection of the minority
students.  In addition, Stephanie participated in a panel to answer questions from students about broadcasting as a career.
