SUPPLEMENTAL RECRUITMENT ACTIVITIES For Stations: KWIX-AM and KRES-FM, Moberly, MO Specify First Initiative: Hosting of a Job Fair. Describe activities undertaken to fulfill that initiative: On January 24, 2004, KWIX and KRES hosted a Job Fair at Moberly Area Community College with Sales Manager Howard Miedler and CSR Manager Elvina Cunningham in attendance. Information about the radio stations was distributed and positions were described for future potential openings. Six other businesses from the area were invited and included in the KWIX/KRES Job Fair. A large number of individuals attended the Job Fair. Specify Second Initiative: Participation in a Scholarship Program to assist students interested in a career in broadcasting. Describe activities undertaken to fulfill that initiative: KWIX and KRES Asst. Program Director Stephanie Ross and On Air Programmer Kristie Douglas participated in the University of Missouri Journalism School’s AHANA Workshop. AHANA (African, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American) high school students were sponsored from July 5-13, 2004 and were given practical, realistic experience in reporting, writing, and editing news stories. KWIX and KRES sponsored one student for the Workshop for $1600, and broadcast ads inviting minority students to attend the Workshop. Stephanie and Kristie helped the Journalism School with the selection of the minority students and assisted the students assigned to them in writing news stories. Stephanie did a presentation to the students on how to write a news story for broadcasting, and she participated in a panel to answer questions from students about broadcasting as a career.
